Good day list members.Our client recently purchased some used machinery that has an obsolete Hitachi PLC. Mechanically, this machine is functioning well. I guess this PLC must have been made in 70s. It uses a cumbersome handheld programmer to access program. This client has requested a project proposal on conversion to the modern series of Hitachi PLCs. I have gone through the website of Hitachi and found some good information on various PLCs that can do this project.Could someone that has some experience with Hitachi PLC model EH-150 and their software Pro-H kindly share with us?I am particularly interested in good or bad experiences and comparisons of ease of use, cost, reliability, etc.

Your client have people who are familiar with Hitachi's PLCs? Depending on the size of the Hitachi PLCs I think you should consider the time you are going to expend in the program translation to the same brand and the time to expend if the job is to another brand like Siemens or AB.We have a few Hitachi PLCs that still working very good. Just one more question, the new PLC is going to be in a network, or is a stand-alone machine?

Staff are familiar with mainly AB but due to the fact that current management are Japanese, there is strong inclination towards Hitachi. There is feeling that it is much cheaper than AB. I am yet to get the costing. New plc is going to be a stand alone with 500 i/os,all digital inputs and outputs.
I have gone through the manuals for EH-150 and Pro-H and from the look of things,it seems not so bad. Our company has mainly been using other brands for automation,(AB,Siemens,Omron). That explains my need to get feedback from current users of Hitachi plcs.Rgds, Gabriel.
Dear GabrielIf the persons responsible for the EH-150 are Japanese engineers already familiar with Hitachi, your best option will be to choose Ladder Editor for Windows (LEW) over PRO-H. This software is even available for use with Japanese Windows.PRO-H was developed primarily for the European marketplace.
